As I sat down to
Blog, Tweet, and update the
class Wiki (it still sounds weird to hear myself saying any of those words) I had to consider where do I post what? What is most appropriate for a blog entry? What should I put in the
class Wiki, and when should I ever use
Twitter. I went back through Robin's PowerPoints from class and found some information about the spectrum of Blog Posts. I found this very helpful, especially the non-examples, which highlighted all the things I thought blogging included - for example: journaling, posting links, and posting assignments. The idea that blogging is a place for synthesis, reflection, and analysis is a new idea to me. Blogging in general is new to me, but I brought with me a mental model of what blogging was all about, and I am learning quickly I have a lot to learn. So bear with me as I find my way through all these new venues to post my thoughts. I may not always chose the most appropriate vehicle to express my thoughts, but you will be hearing a lot of my thoughts.
I know what you mean. I especially struggle with the idea of Twitter, and trying NOT to use it as a text message site to a single person.
ReplyDeleteI am with you both! Isn't it that the learning is in the journey, or something like that? I keep reminding myself of what Robin says - she has a strategy for all of this. I'm not to that point, but I am to the point where I realize having a strategy is critical! So, now to figure out what goes where and how often . . .
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have a strategy for my OWN personal/professional life...I find myself struggling for this class too! It seems I'm letting two things determine my output source:
ReplyDelete(1) the consumption source--if I read it in my RSS reader, I "share" it to my list. If I read it on Twitter, I *might* retweet it.
(2) the audience--there are things I read on twitter that I want to share with the class, but not with everyone following me on twitter (since I use it for personal/business too). But these things are not necessarily wiki-worthy. I'm not really keen on sharing all these links on my blog because I think it's not very good blog content modeling. But I *do* want you to see this content/links.
So, today I was playing around with social bookmarking as a way to share info with you more as "FYI" that you can then choose to read, save, blog about, incorporate into the wiki as you see fit. (But I'm not convinced it's the right answer either yet. i.e. is adding YET ANOTHER communication plateform the way to go?) So I guess we ALL need to keep working on this.
(and don't forget, for this class you'll be using SEVERAL consumption/sharing tools to get experience with them. You may decide NOT to use them all on an on-going basis.)
You are not alone! I think a lot of us are going through this process together. Good luck!
